The Gift of Transformation

What is the Campaign for the Second Century?

As GHS embarks on its second century, please consider giving back to help us all move forward.

This campaign is a partnership with the community to help us better serve the medical needs of our neighbors. Unlike most capital campaigns, which focus on buildings and equipment, ours targets clinical/academic programs or research that will benefit the Upstate and create funds and endowments to sustain these activities.

As we enter our second century of caring for the Upstate, we do so with challenging and ambitious plans. We invite you to become a philanthropic partner in our life-affirming work where each donation is used to ensure that healing, teaching, innovation and discovery come together to keep the people of our region healthy … today and far into the future!

What are our campaign goals?

  1. Improve patient care for the people we serve.
As a nation, we must deliver efficient, effective care. GHS' unique Clinical University is an ideal testing ground for enhancing teamwork, cost containment and innovation. Locally, GHS seeks to expand our footprint of clinical trials. These trials bring the newest therapies to our patients, giving them hope while allowing them to stay close to home.
  2. Expand the healthcare workforce.
When Greenville’s medical school opened in 2012, we enrolled one class of 53 students. Now, we have over 100 per class, but require even more to meet the needs of South Carolina—especially our rural areas. Your support will help draw top medical researchers and educators to teach here. Likewise, scholarship support will enhance GHS' evolution as the nation's first Clinical University and will attract the most gifted students—those open to thinking outside of the box and applying their talents to cultivate a healthier community.
  3. Research supports Total Health, GHS' initiative that focuses on delivering the right care at the right time in the right place.

Increase GHS research and education capabilities.
Support for research allows physician/scientists at GHS to pursue new ideas that translate into better care. Research hubs such as the Rare Tumor Center and the Institute for Translational Oncology Research deliver innovative, personalized cancer therapies based on a patient's genetic blueprint. As for education, endowed department chairs, division chairs and professorships help GHS attract and retain top faculty.
